Although I sometimes make fun of the "softies" to the south, I truly hope they are coping with the recent record snow storms. It really is too bad that the heavy snows could not have fallen here in Vermont instead of the mid-Atlantic. We are use to it. We fire up the snowblowers, clear the drive and go about our business, rather smug in our toughness. However, to be honest, after digging out my preferred demonstration of toughness is hot chocolate next to the wood stove and a nap.
Anyway, I do have a particular warm spot for the birds that hang on around my home for the winter, even though as Vermont winters go, this one has been rather tame. So here's the first of several posts featuring (one at a time) the hearty winter birds that are regulars in my yard.Stay warm ....
I love our tough winter birds too. Your captures of the Blue Jay are beautiful. My favorite is the last photo. He's one of my favorite birds in winter...colorful, noisy and fun!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Chris, the snow should have been on us. They just aren't equipt for it in the south which always has me scratching my head in amazement. Here in New England it's just another day to get out and about. No biggie.
ReplyDeleteThe Blue Jay is always a welcome sight in the black and white world of Winter. Wonderful shots.
Beautiful shots! I hear lots of Blue Jays in my area, but for some reason, they haven't taken an interest in my feeder yet. Thanks for the reminder that super-common birds can be beautiful, too.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures of one of the few birds that add some color to winter. Here is south central Minn. we must be getting your snow. About one of the heaviest snow ones we have had in a long time...over 5 foot so far. Seems like all I have been doing is cleaning out.
ReplyDeleteFabulous images Chris. A beautiful bird.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos, Chris. The second one is precious.
ReplyDeleteYes, it would be nice to get some more snow around here. It's looking a bit bare these days! But during these bleak, gray days of winter, it's so nice to see a beautiful Blue Jay.
Well I have to say I never had that kind of opportunity... Blue jays keep their distances here!! It is a great frustration since we have so many!
ReplyDeleteI honestly think the quality of your photography is improving tremendously!!
Well done Chris!
You should have a look at my blog today...
I don't often have this kind of luck...!!!
Nice pictures! I love the wily Blue Jay - just heard the cry of a Red-tailed Hawk which turned out to be a Blue Jay near my feeder.
