From the West River in Brattleboro - Common Merganser ...

... and from the backyard, a House Finch, usually expected in the town neighborhoods along the Connecticut, but an uncommon visitor in my village.

Good birding!

Hi Chris,
Nice that you are getting uncommon visitor in your garden, especially when they are so beautiful ;-)

I haven't seen any house finches at my feeder for a long time. They used to be quite common. I thought their numbers were seriously down due to finch conjunctivitis. I had one bird with the disease at my feeder last year. So it looks like they may be recovering.

I saw some common mergansers by the Green River Covered Bridge in Gilford. It was a real treat because I don't get common mergansers in Gloucester and it was the first time I've seen mergansers on a river.
